Toast for Charity is a youth empowerment, Dallas-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving kids of color in our communities.
The Emerging Difference Maker Program (EDM) is a vital initiative led by Toast for Charity, dedicated to recognizing, nurturing, and empowering the upcoming generation of difference makers in southern Dallas.
This program addresses significant challenges faced by our community:
1. Financial Barriers:
In the quest for higher education, an astounding 86.6% of Black college students take out federal loans to attend four-year colleges, compared to just 59.9% of white students. Many of our potential difference-makers grapple with the burden of student loan debt. EDM strives to eliminate or substantially reduce this financial strain by offering scholarship opportunities and making college education more accessible.
2. Support Deficiency:
Many students of color in southern Dallas encounter a stark lack of community support, mentorship opportunities, and enriching extracurricular activities essential for their personal and professional growth. EDM aims to bridge this gap by providing a robust support system, mentorship, and access to meaningful extracurricular experiences.
3. Future Preparation:
Preparing students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead is paramount. The EDM program is committed to equipping young individuals with the knowledge, skills, and resources required to thrive in their future endeavors.
By focusing on these critical areas, EDM endeavors to create a brighter and more promising future for the emerging difference makers in southern Dallas, empowering them to make a lasting impact on their communities and beyond.
